B&B Italia celebrates 50 years of the Camaleonda sofa by proposing it in a contemporary and sustainable way

An icon of the 70s returns. Camaleonda, the modular seating system of B&B Italia designed by Mario Bellini in 1970, has defined the aesthetics of interior design of an entire era, conquering the major international design museums and the sets of great films, in addition to the hearts of design lovers and interior decorators. A sofa conceived as an architectural element that keeps changing the skyline of the interiors in which it is inserted thanks to its chameleon nature.

In its re-edition, Camaleonda retains the iconic elements that made it a contemporary classic, such as the 90×90 seat module, the backrest, the armrest and the generous polyurethane padding that creates the characteristic capitonné. Obviously, its infinite modularity remains unchanged, because, according to Bellini, it is a symbol of freedom and allows you to design and redesign the space at will.

What has changed is not the form or the functionality, but the materials. The goal was, in fact, to make the furniture sustainable. Its structure is now made up of recycled or recyclable materials that can be easily disassembled, such as the wooden panels that form the structure, or the spherical feet in FSC certified beech wood (Forest Stewardship Council). The padding is protected by a removable cover in dacron, a fully recyclable synthetic fabric.

To top it all off, let’s not forget Gli Scacchi, also by Mario Bellini, complements that are light and easy to move, to be used as extra seats or tables. This year they are re-proposed in soft leather or cavallino with visible stitching.
