Kunst Meran Merano Arte, together with the Alto Adige Architecture Foundation and the Südtiroler Künstlerbund, is happy to present the fourth edition of the exhibition and editorial project Recent Architecture in Alto Adige.

From 27 October 2024 to 16 February 2025

After the first three editions (2006, 2012, 2018), with this new exhibition, Kunst Meran Merano Arte proposes a fourth inventory of the projects that document the architectural horizon that has developed in Alto Adige, an exhibition that thus arrives, in its entirety, to tell the story of 24 years of South Tyrolean architecture, from 2000 to now.

The projects selected for this new edition will be evaluated by an international jury composed of the curator Filippo Bricolo, architect (Bricolo Falsarella Architetti) and professor at the Polytechnic of Milan, supported by Elisa Valero Ramos, architect and professor of architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura, University of Granada and Annette Spiro, architect (Spiro + Gantenbein Architekten ETH/SIA AG), full professor of architecture and construction, ETH Zurich.

The three members of the jury first carried out a pre-selection of the over 240 projects received; after an on-site visit to numerous structures, 28 main ones were chosen, of which a detailed restitution will be proposed, alongside a second group of 28 others, which will find space in the exhibition and in the catalogue, in a more limited way.

As stated by the curator Filippo Bricolo in his text proposed in the catalogue, the project revolves around two fundamental questions: does architecture exist in Alto Adige? And, if so, what does it consist of? Far from wanting to provide an answer, the selected projects represent one of the many possible keys to understanding the developments of the architectural language in our territory. The deliberately questioning approach, the doubt understood in a critical sense, which distinguish this edition intends to act as an invitation to debate and reflection.

And it is precisely from the inspiration of the South Tyrolean artistic environment that a dynamic and at the same time material vision takes shape, proposed with different facets in the selected projects.

In Bressanone, MoDusArchitects adopts a fine design strategy for the restoration and expansion of the Cusanus Academy, with the aim of promoting interaction between the Academy and the city.

In Novacella, bergmeisterwolf uses burnished bronze to clad the extension of the Pacerhof winery, a material that ages and changes with the passage of time, recalling the changing colors of the stone and the surrounding mountains.

With the Civil Protection Center of Renon, Roland Baldi Architects has designed a common house for the Fire Brigade, Alpine Rescue and White Cross, thus facilitating their operations and collaboration and in San Vigilio di Marebbe, Pedavilla Architects, designs a house based on archaic forms, where no distinction is made between roof and facade.

Numerous projects, very different from each other, which meet in a common thought in the South Tyrolean territory, the fusion between naturalness and matter.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on 26 October 2024 with a press conference that will be held on 25 October 2024 and will tell the shared thought that led to the choice of the competing projects.

The exhibition and catalog are the result of the collaboration between Kunst Meran/Merano Arte, Südtiroler Künstlerbund and the Alto Adige/Südtirol Architecture Foundation.
